Reduce Scarring with ChitoCare Medical Scar Healing Gel

ChitoCare medical devices are designed for the protection and healing of skin and wounds. Their main active ingredient is chitosan, a biocompatible polymer with a host of beneficial properties for skin and wound healing.

Why chitosan?

Chitosan is a true wonder of the sea, as it protects the skin, reduces redness and irritation with its cooling effect, maintains moisture and promotes the skin's natural repair process. Chitosan is a functional polysaccharide providing support to skin tissue. Under mild acidic conditions, it becomes positively charged, rendering it bio-adhesive. This allows it to adhere to intact or breached skin as a protective film, conferring many important biological properties.

Chitosan properties for scar healing

ChitoCare medical Scar Healing Gel provides a moist wound environment and helps to protect against infection. It provides scaffold support for cell growth, induces faster wound healing, and produces smoother scarring.

Chitosan is the main active ingredient used in ChitoCare medical devices. Chitosan has multiple beneficial actions during scar healing, including:

  • minimizing scar formation
  • reducing existing scars
  • forming a film to protect skin
  • promoting natural skin healing
  • protecting against infections
  • reducing redness, itching and pain
  • favouring the regeneration of the epidermis (our skin’s top layer)
  • supporting the re-establishment of skin architecture thanks to its great flexibility

Reduced scar volume and scarring for improved skin texture

A scar forms when your body heals itself after a cut, scrape, burn, or sore. One can also get scars from surgery that cuts through the skin, from infections like chickenpox, or from skin conditions like acne. Scars can be thicker, as well as pinker, redder, or shinier than the rest of the skin. Scars usually fade over time but never go away completely. The sooner a scar is treated, the smaller the chance of a permanent or visible scar.

Scar appearance will depend on multiple factors, including the depth and size of the wound, its location, and the age, sex, ethnicity and genetics of the patient. There are several different types of scars. Most scars are flat and pale. However, in cases when the body produces too much collagen, scars can be raised as hypertrophic or keloid scars. Some scars can have a sunken or pitted appearance (atrophic), occurring when underlying structures supporting the skin (for example, fat or muscle) are lost. Some surgical scars have this appearance, as do some scars from acne.

Chitosan and scar healing

ChitoCare medical Scar Healing Gel is easy to use and can be applied to any skin defects, wound surface, new or old scars to stimulate cell proliferation and support proper histoarchitectural tissue organization. It stimulates correct tissue organization with proper collagen alignment for a better aesthetic appearance, better skin flexibility and for smoother and less visible scars.

Chitosan also supports the skin around the wounded area, and protects against infection and moisture loss. It helps to reduce pain and inflammation, ensuring proper healing and minimizing scarring. It also provides a soothing, cooling effect.

A safe, biocompatible product

ChitoCare medical Scar Healing Gel is a safe, biocompatible product.  It promotes natural skin healing and is bio-adhesive allowing the gel to adhere to the breached or intact skin surface, forming a protective film. No side-effects are known, unless allergy to an ingredient causes skin irritation or other reactions. Always do a patch test and apply to a small skin area first, to test product suitability.

It can be stored at room temperature, however storing it in the fridge provides an added cooling effect. It is suitable for use by the whole family, including children and the elderly. It is ideal for the treating new and old scars after accidents, surgery, cosmetic surgery or C-sections.
